Blue Grass Blue Moon
03:06
|
|||
Barefoot on the blue grass
Staring at the blue moon
Finished off a six pack
Gonna smoke a blunt soon
Girl you got a nice ass
Punished mama, made her sad
40 days and 40 nights
Of cocaine at your brother's pad
Brenda got a baby
Hasn't showered lately
Couldn't pay the water bill
Cos Daddy's fucking lazy
All I'm tryna say is that
Circumstance has got in our way
Barefoot on the bluegrass
Staring at the blue moon
Puncture in the arm
Hoping that it take you out soon
Waking up the next day
Know it be your next grave
Only in the moment
Do you ponder whether Jesus save
Dust off your dirty knees
Look at those and look at these
Dalai Llama dunderees
Can I get the check please?
All I'm tryna say is that
Circumstance has got in our way

Kentucky prelude
02:25
|

I got a pill to take
I got some booze to drink
Ain't got no story to tell
Go ahead and throw me in jail
I don't care
I don't care
And you say that you know what I'm going through
And you say that you know where I've been
And then you just say it'll all be okay
But I don't believe it
I don't believe it
All my life it's been something
School didn't do much for me
When I worked deep in the mine
Getting home what made me feel fine was a drink
(and another one, and another one)
And you say that there ain't no more options
And you say that I have your respect
And then you say that you'd give back what you took away
But I don't believe it
I don't believe it
And all that I feel deep within
As the needle pierces my skin
If the last breath I draw meant nothing at all
At least I'd die happy
And you say that you know what I'm going through
And you say that you know where I've been
And then you just say it'll all be okay
But I don't believe it
I don't believe it
I don't believe it
I don't believe it
I don't believe it

Pain
04:18
|

Pain
I'm in so much pain
I put myself
In so much pain
My insides are burning
Yet I'm so cold
I feel like I'm dying
I just need more
Pain
I'm in pain
I'm in pain
I'm in pain
Now I'm uncomfortably numb
Used to feel like I shone like the sun
I scream in my sleep every night
Then wake up too tired to fight
It drives my woman crazy
She thinks that I'm just being lazy
She kicked me out into the rain
She don't understand that I'm in so much
Pain
I'm in pain
I'm in pain
I'm in pain

Kentucky

Blood, coal
And rock and roll
I grew up by the Country road
I'd look across the way and see West Virginia
Mountains black into
Fields of grey
I kept my feelings locked away
Kentucky, my home, I'm going away
But not today
I've got a couple things I want to say
Nevermore
Will I take the road my family took before
In 2016 he was 90 days clean
After all of the drugs and sipping on lean
The years of putting his mind through hell
Of the last things he said,
"You live once use it well"
The rest of his life was lived by those words
And he spent all his energy grinding and working
But just 2 years later out on the train tracks
Across from my Mom's house his dead body was laying
What happened?
He was relapsing
His body collapsing
Pushed out by the highway
Next to oncoming traffic
It's tragic
He wanted his life back
But his demons got him
And he died on the train track
This is life for some of us
For others life don't make a fuss
Still the conversation must be had
In the midst of poverty
You'll find some people breaking free
Cos knowledge is the Narcan of the mass
Today
I got some things that I want to say
Nevermore
Will I take the road my family took before
In Kentucky we know
A beautiful soul
That got lost in the coal
And had nowhere to go
In Kentucky they know
The business ain't gold
And our knowledge has grown
Yeah we'll get by on our own
Yeah
